The Uganda Women’s Effort to Save Orphans (UWESO) is a humanitarian and development organization in Uganda dedicated to improving the welfare of vulnerable children, particularly orphans and those affected by poverty, disease, and social disadvantage. Established in 1986, UWESO works to provide care, education, healthcare, and social support to children and families across the country.
The organization focuses on empowering communities and strengthening family structures to ensure that vulnerable children grow up in safe and supportive environments.
Janet Kataaha Museveni has played a significant role in the leadership and development of UWESO. As a long-serving advocate for children’s welfare, she has supported the organization’s mission of protecting and uplifting vulnerable children in Uganda.
Through her involvement, UWESO has expanded its programs and partnerships, helping to improve access to education, healthcare, and social protection for disadvantaged children and families.
UWESO implements a range of programs designed to support vulnerable children and strengthen communities.
UWESO provides assistance such as education support, shelter, nutrition, and counseling to orphans and children facing difficult living conditions.
The organization promotes access to quality education by supporting school infrastructure, scholarships, and learning materials for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
UWESO contributes to improved health outcomes by supporting community health initiatives, access to healthcare services, and awareness programs on issues affecting children and families.
Recognizing the critical role of caregivers, UWESO also works with women and families to improve household livelihoods through skills development, income-generating activities, and community support networks.
Through its programs and partnerships, UWESO has played a vital role in improving the lives of thousands of children across Uganda. By focusing on education, health, and family empowerment, the organization continues to contribute to building stronger communities and a more secure future for vulnerable children.
