 LIVING WATER INTERNATIONAL, A GODSEND TO UGANDA – FIRST LADY

The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Mrs. Janet Museveni has described Living Water International (LWI) as a Godsend to Uganda owing to the work it has done in the last 10 years to transform the lives of the people by providing clean water.

She said it is humbling to remember that LWI came to Uganda as an answered prayer from her to God to intervene in the dire need of water in Ruhaama Constituency when she was still the area MP and it reveals the fantastic way of how God truly answers prayers.

Mrs. Janet Museveni was meeting a delegation of 7 people from Living Water International, led by Dr. Michael Mantel the President and CEO of the Christian not-for- profit NGO, who paid a courtesy call on her at State House Nakasero on Tuesday. The delegation also included Mrs Natalie Ann Mantel, Richard Gene Allen and his wife Kristi Lou Allen, Robin Ann Holder, Ruth Adhiambo Okorwa, the Regional Director for East Africa and Bernard Mooya the Country Director Living Water International Uganda.

The First Lady hailed the NGO for transforming the lives of Ugandans not only by providing water but also the living word of God to the communities wherever they have been operating. “I know how much Living Water International has meant to me, the people of Ruhaama and other Ugandans and I need to say thank you to you people”, she said.

She also paid tribute to those Americans who walk in the footsteps of Jesus, saying they have become good friends of Uganda. She thanked the Living Water International proprietors for being people who serve God and feel duty bound to answer His call.

Dr. Michael Mantel the President and CEO of Living Water International recalled how the programme started 10 years ago at the request from First Lady Janet Museveni to support the people of Ruhaama access clean water. They expanded to Nyabushozi, Ibanda and will launch the 4th Water Access, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme area in Malongo Sub county in Mayuge District this month.

The Living Water International boss said that in addition to providing water, they have partnered with the Crossing Church in St Louis Missouri USA to hold Genius One Conferences aimed at building the capacity of Church Leaders and Pastors and promote oneness amongst them.

He thanked Mrs. Janet Museveni for her vision, leadership, gracious heart, hospitality and service to the Lord. He also commended the team at Living Water International Uganda for being exceptional and achieving such milestones.

Living Water International Uganda has over the years helped to construct more than 1,100 water projects of various types benefitting over 400,000 people and 120 stances of institutional latrines benefitting more than 10,000 pupils in different areas of Uganda.

The Country Director Living Water International Uganda, Bernard Mooya was grateful that what started as an answer to the need for water in Ruhaama has spread wide in the country and has provided jobs for many people. He said that a new water project will soon be launched in Parolinya refugee settlement in Moyo District.

The Regional Director for East Africa Ruth Okorwa appreciated First Lady Janet Museveni for accepting the role of Patron for Living Water International Uganda which she took up in April this year.
